Lesson in a Box
From the award-winning making it! Discovery Centre in North Nottinghamshire comes a practical lesson package that will interest and intrigue your students as they discover for themselves how products are invented, designed, tested, made, packaged & marketed. The activity package culminates with your students designing and making their own working model, which is theirs to keep – components & instructions for each child included.
making it! attracts visiting school parties mainly from the Mid-Shires counties but we recognise that for many schools travelling time can be prohibitive and expensive. Lesson in a Box brings the interactive excitement of a day at making it! to the convenience of your own classroom with full programme planning and comprehensive quality materials and resources.
What is it?
12 hour’s worth of teaching resources, plans and materials suitable for Years 1 to 6. The box includes everything you’ll need to deliver a stimulating and relevant Design & Technology experience to your class.
What do you get?
- A term’s worth of lessons developed around the Design & Technology Curriculum
- A suggested Scheme of Work
- Sufficient resources for a whole class (component parts for kits packaged separately per student)
- Photocopiable Work Sheets and Teacher’s Notes
- A classroom Board game for group activity (1 per 10 children)
- A ‘Cog and Sprocket’ CD-Rom of the making it! galleries
- “Print the Front Page” – a mock up of a local newspaper on which to write a story and add drawings or designs.
How much does it cost?
Lesson in a Box costs £5 per student (KS1) and £5.50 per student (KS2) (minimum of 10). You need to order one set of resources for each student. The resource can be ordered by email, phone or fax, using the attached order form. You will be invoiced prior to despatch of the box.
Is it re-usable?
Yes – all instructions, designs and other paper resources may be photocopied for normal school use (excluding the board game). Additional component parts for the model kits are available for purchase – just ask for our price list.
